Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, LLC is a 2016 recipient of the Silver - Achievement in Quality Award for outstanding performance in the health care profession.  It is the eighth Alabama skilled nursing care center to earn this prestigious award.

The award is the second of three distinctions possible through the National Quality Award Program, presented by the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living (ACHA/NCAL). The competitive award program highlights select skilled nursing care centers across the nation that serve as models of excellence in providing high-quality long-term and post-acute care.

"This award is a symbol of our dedication to improving the lives of the patients and residents we care for everyday," Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Administrator, Mattie Banks said.

"Our staff members work hard each day to provide high quality care with a compassionate spirit.  We're honored to be recognized for the good work we do."

Implemented by ACHA/NCAL in 1996, the National Quality Award Program is base on the care values and criteria of the Baldridge Performance Excellence Program.  The program assists providers of long term and post-acute care services in achieving their performance excellence goals. The program has three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.  Centers begin the quality improvement prcess at the Bronze level and must receive an award at each level before proceeding to the next.

As a recipient of the Silver-Achievement in Quality Award, Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has demonstrated systematic advancements in quality, plans for continual improvement and sustainable organizational goals.  The center may now move forward in developing approches and achieving performance levels that meet the criteria required for the Gold-Excellence in Quality Award, which requires them to address the Baldridge Health Care Criteria for Performance Excellence in its entirety.

"It takes incredible dedication and passion to successfully apply the demands of the criteria." said Chair of the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Board of Overseers, Christine Boldt. "I applaud Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for reaching this level and for its commitment to always improve."

The award will be presented to recipients on October 18th during the AHCA/NCAL's 67th Annual Convention & Expo in Nashville, Tennessee.

Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is one of 71 centers nationally receiving the silver level award in 2016.
